AN application for a new house in multiple occupation in Winton has been turned down.
Bournemouth council planning officers said there were already too many HMOs in the area, and that residents had expressed concern.
The scheme for the detached house at 14 Bryanstone Road received two letters of objection citing potential noise and parking problems, but more significantly was deemed in breach of council policy limiting the number of HMOs in an area to 10 per cent of housing stock.
In this area of Winton nearly 30 per cent of properties are HMOs.
A report by officer Tom Hubbard states: "As evidenced by the objections received, the change in use of dwellings to HMO uses in this area is already causing concern amongst residents, particularly those let to students.
"The immediate area has greater than the 10 per cent threshold of properties converted to HMO uses, indicating that the character of the area has been altered and further concentration of such uses would be contrary to the policy and would cause further harm to the area."
The application was refused by officers under delegated powers.
