So how long does it actually take to walk from the closed toilets at Baiter Park to the nearest facilities at the Quay.

John Rampton, cabinet member for environmental services at Borough of Poole, will tell you it is a five minute journey.

He reiterated these timings during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday night - but did point out that he got his calculations from Google.

And while Google is a fantastic place for answers - don't they always tell you not to trust everything you read on the internet.

That's why this intrepid reporter decided she would carry out the walk of strain herself.

I started at the Baiter Park toilet block and walked along the footpath to the closest toilets at Dolphin Quay. It's about half-a-mile.

Now I consider myself to be a fit, young twenty-something who usually doesn't get out of breath while walking.

But even I would have struggled to make that journey in five minutes - although if you're really bursting for the loo you might be able to run it in that time.

Walking at a steady pace, in sensible shoes with an empty bladder it took me 12 minutes.

But let's be honest, the people who really need access to a public toilet aren't going to be like me.

They are the elderly, the disabled and parents with small children and I would suggest it would take them longer than me to walk from Baiter to Dolphin Quays.

For the more spritely of the group lets say 15minutes, but realistically we're probably looking at 20.

Now when I really need to go the thought of having to hold on for 10, 15 or 20 minutes can be quite a daunting thought - especially if you are a visitor to the area and don't really know how far the next available toilet is.

The council has said repeatedly that the public toilet closures across the borough are due to financial pressures.

A total of 15 have now been closed - with the Haven toilets near Sandbanks Ferry getting a reprise for the summer.

The argument at The Haven was that there were no other toilet facilities nearby - just a small cafe with one toilet which was struggling to meet the demand.

The same could be said for Baiter Park. Google tells me there is a Sainsbury's about a 12 minute walk. Or there is the Dolphin Quays public toilets at the Quay.

But despite this the council has said there are currently no plans to re-open the toilets there. It has said there are ongoing discussions with third parties to reopen the toilets in a more sustainable way.

What the outcome will be from those discussions is unclear - but it doesn't look like the toilets at Baiter Park will be opening any time soon.
