A NEW community hub has opened its doors at Branksome Recreation Ground in Poole.

The Branksome Centre, at the site of the former Parkstone Sports and Arts Centre for Young People - which closed its doors last March - will be run by the Poole Communities Trust (PCT).

The trust, which signed a new lease with the Borough of Poole (BOP), hopes to provide a full programme of activities for people of all ages.

PCT development officer Chris Mills said: "Whilst it has been a tough couple of months getting the building ready for use, we are delighted with the new improved facilities. We now look forward to welcoming local people.

"As well as improving the building, we have been working in partnership with a range of different organisations to establish a varied programme of activities from the centre.

"There will be opportunities for people of all ages to participate."

The centre, on Recreation Road adjacent to the Branksome Recreation Ground, has recently undergone internal refurbishment works.

There is now a new reception hall and coffee shop area and improved facilities in the art studio.

The Branksome Centre also boasts a sports hall, two meeting rooms and an outdoor games area.

The centre’s initial programme of activities will include sport and exercise sessions, a youth club and various social activities.

Mr Mills added: "We hope that the Branksome Centre will make a positive difference to the local community, helping people to get active, keep learning and make friends."

The centre's initial programme of activities will include sport and exercise sessions, a youth club and various social activities. It is also hosting a range of art classes delivered by the Artisan Community Art Studio.
