IT was a bittersweet farewell to Mudeford as the Revd Canon Helen Griffiss thanked her parishioners for their support after 11 years of service.

The vicar of All Saints Church took to The Run off the quay for Rogation Sunday and the Blessing of the Waters during what was her last ever service.

Congregants of all ages, as well as beloved family members, gathered for the special service basking in the glorious sunshine.

"We ask for God's blessing on the water and all those who work on it and use it for enjoyment," Revd Griffiss said.

She recalled her first ever service - also the Blessing of the Water - 11 years ago.

"I wanted to end my ministry with this service - it is so very, very special to me," she added. "It is not in church and I think that is very special. "Coming out and leading services in the community, especially down on this quay at the heart of this community in Mudeford, that is something really, really special.

"All coming together to give glory to God on this special day is very important to me."

Revd Griffiss is due to retire from her position on May 31 when she bids a fond farewell to her parish.

"Being a priest is what I am. I will always be until the day I die," she added. "I want to thank you all for being here this afternoon for sharing in God's glory and to give thanks to all those who work here day by day."
