MORE than 100 bikers turned out in tribute to remember a Blandford couple who lost their lives after a tragic road accident.

Barbara and Sidney Samways died following a crash at the start of April on the C13 Higher Shaftesbury Road near Compton Abbas Airfield.

Mr Samways, 74, died at the scene, while Mrs Samways, 71, died a few days later at Southampton General Hospital.

They had been travelling on their black Kawasaki motorbike.

Bikers met to escort the funeral party riding to Weymouth Crematorium on Friday.

Mrs Samways’s daughter Jo Kempster said her mum and stepdad lived in the Weymouth area before moving to Blandford. They travelled all over Europe together.

“Sidney had been riding motorbikes since he could walk and has always had bikes, riding scrambles, trials for Weymouth and Bridport MCC and Road Bikes," she said.

“They have been all over on their road bikes, to France, Germany, Andorra, Switzerland and Italy. They attended the Moto GP every year at Le Mans in France and were due to go this year as well as a trip to the Pyrenees. They were members of three bike clubs: The Dorset Honda Owners Club, The Red House Bike Club and Purbeck Motorcycle Club.

“Their two main loves were the motorbikes and their grandchildren who they doted on.

“We are all truly and absolutely devastated but also so grateful for the wonderful memories they have left us with.”
