TRAVELLERS remain at the car park of the Miller & Carter steakhouse in Poole.

A dozen caravans and other vehicles pulled onto the site on Wednesday afternoon.

The steakhouse is currently closed after fire ripped through its roof a fortnight ago.

This blaze, which claimed a significant section of the building's roof, also destroyed staff quarters.

Borough of Poole (BOP) has confirmed it is aware of the unauthorised encampment and that environmental services have visited the restaurant car park in Wallisdown Road, Alderney, Poole.

However, they will not be taking any legal action as the site is privately owned.

A spokesman for Miller & Carter said the company is working to resolve the traveller issue, and that work to repair the building is not anticipated to be delayed due to travellers being on site.

The spokesman added: "The site is obviously closed following the recent fire and we are working to ensure it is structurally safe so we can begin repair works."
