THE head teacher of a top Bournemouth boys school ‘clarified’ the policy on female students, after a ‘spoof’ April Fool memo.
The memo, circulated to staff by head teacher Dr Dorian Lewis as a joke, suggested the Bournemouth School was set to admit female Year 7 students for the first time.
However, at least one staff member – possibly concerned the school was embarking in a new direction – missed the funny side.
Dr Lewis told the Daily Echo: “This has arisen from an internal communication which was very clearly an April Fool, which has been misinterpreted by a member of staff who, unfortunately, has decided to take it to the press. There is absolutely no intention of us ever admitting girls into Year 7.”
The email read: “You need to watch out on Saturday morning for the publication of our draft admissions policy for September 2019, which increases our Year 7 intake to 210 and also enables for the first time the admission of girls into Year 7. More details in tomorrow’s briefing
“PS: please don’t mention the above to colleagues at BGS (they won’t be happy).”
