SENIOR detectives have met with prosecutors as part of a review into the murder of Veronica ‘Carole’ Packman, it has been revealed.

Carole disappeared from the family home in Westbourne shortly after visiting a solicitor to enquire about divorcing husband Russell Causley, who had already moved his lover Patricia into the family home.

Despite the absence of a body he was convicted of murder at a retrial ordered in 2004 and has been behind bars since.

Last year, ITV series The Investigator took a fresh look at the killing after Causley confessed.

However, he then withdrew the confession during the programme.

Patricia has always denied any involvement in the murder.

Police launched a review of the case around seven months ago.

Yesterday, Mark Williams Thomas of The Investigator said: “Following my investigation in series one into the murder of Carole Packman I was able to identify new evidence, which was then presented to Dorset Police officers in a detailed file.

“As a result of the new evidence we found in our series Dorset Police commenced a review of the case.

“This is ongoing and has involved taking a number of new statements from key witnesses we identified in our series.

“This has resulted in the police meeting very recently with the Crown Prosecution Service to seek specific guidance in regards to their ongoing review as a result of our evidence.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Callaghan of Dorset Police said: “As part of the force’s ongoing review into the case, we are liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service to seek legal guidance and assistance.”

Mr Williams Thomas called the development “significant”.
