POLICE are looking for a driver who ploughed into a parked car in a residential road in Bournemouth before making off.

Lee Millward, who lives in Robert Louis Stevenson Road in Westbourne, was visited by police at 5.40am yesterday following the incident.

The shop owner said his white Jeep Cherokee was shoved 12ft forward and onto the pavement after the silver Vauxhall Astra crashed into it.

The driver abandoned the car and left the scene before police officers arrived.

Mr Millward said the incident had left him "absolutely devastated".

"We are now left to pick up the pieces, and will have to continue to pay for the car if it is a write-off and the offer amount doesn't meet the finance left.

“Somebody said he saw the driver get out of the car and rub his head before leaving. If anyone is able to help us identify the driver, we would be so grateful."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a stationary car in Robert Louis Stevenson Road.

“The Vauxhall’s windscreen has been damaged. The driver of the car left the scene prior to the officers’ attendance.

“A search was carried out, but no arrests have been made. An investigation is underway.”
