Brollies at the ready - it's going to be a wet Monday.

Heavy downpours are set to make for a miserable morning rush-hour but rain will turn lighter with a chance of sunny spells in the afternoon.

Temperatures of 8C are predicted but it will feel no warmer than 2C or 3C throughout the day, thanks to some strong winds reaching between 30 and 40mph.

Tuesday will be much brighter after a chilly start but it will feel like 0C up until 12pm.

Wednesday will see the chance of a shower and highs of 9C.

Thursday and Friday will be cloudy with highs of 10C.

From next weekend and into mid-March, things are set to turn more unsettled.

The Met Office says: "An unsettled picture is likely as frontal systems move into the UK from the south or southwest, bringing wet and windy weather at times.

"Snow is likely over northern hills, with a low risk of some snow more widely at times across the north.

"Between frontal systems, there should be some spells of brighter weather with showers which may be wintry at times in the north. Nevertheless, some brief quieter, drier spells are also likely.

"Temperatures will generally vary around normal for the time of year, often slightly above average in the south but rather cold at times in the north, with night frosts.

"There remains the possibility of a more widely settled but colder period, perhaps giving wintry showers in the east and north."
