POLICE are hunting a man who took money from a checkout till which had been mistakenly left behind by a customer.
A woman in her 40s had requested £50 cashback from the self-service till but left without taking it from the machine.
Soon afterwards a man took the money from the machine and left the Asda store in Station Road, Gillingham before the victim realised what had happened and contacted the store.
The so-called theft by finding took place at around 5.40pm on Wednesday February 1 and now police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
Police Sergeant Adam Aggas, of North Dorset police, said: "The man who collected the victim’s money made no effort to hand the cash to staff. I am appealing to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image to please contact Dorset Police.
"Finally, I would urge the person pictured to please do the right thing and come forward."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55170017390.
