A POPULAR French restaurant chain could be the newest culinary edition to Bournemouth.

Côte Brasserie has submitted a licensing application to Bournemouth Borough Council for the former Austin Reed shop in Westover Road.

The men's retail store closed last year when the company collapsed into administration. The site has been empty since then - but could now become home to the French eatery.

For many it will be seen as a welcome edition to the area following the closure of the ABC and Odeon cinemas earlier this month - leaving two empty units in Westover Road.

It will be the second Côte Brasserie in Dorset - with one already in Dorchester. There is also a branch in Salisbury and around 80 more dotted across the UK, more than a quarter of them in London, where it all started ten years ago.

It's menu is inspired by the brasseries of Paris, championing relaxed all-day dining and serving authentic French classics made from fresh ingredients.

The restaurant chain is requesting permission to serve alcohol from 10am to midnight, seven days a week, and to play recorded music from 8am to midnight.
