AN INNOVATIVE student band has recorded its first album in a school studio.

Members of Pigeon Hole, made up of sixth form BTEC Music students from The Bourne Academy, are now getting ready to showcase their talents at a gig in Bournemouth later this month.

They will be playing songs from their first album, called Down The Pigeon Hole, when they perform at The Anvil in Holdenhurst Road on January 27.

And they will be supported by two other bands, The Indiecisives and the Bonsai Pirates.

The four members of Pigeon Hole are Bonnie-Rae Lambourne (vocals/guitar), Kurt Scott (drums/guitar/vocals), Tristram Apperley (base/violin) and Leah McGuinness (piano/vocals).

They have been playing music together since they were 14-years-old and write their own songs, as well as putting their own twist on a set of songs from the 60s, 70s and 90s.

The fab four have had various influences but all agree that the one person who stands out is their own music teacher, David Mastrocola, and his team.

Mr Mastrocola won the Middle/Secondary Teacher of the Year award at the inaugural Daily Echo School Awards event held in March last year and group members say he inspired them to study music in the Hadow Road school's sixth form before going to university.

Students at The Bourne Academy play live to fellow pupils at lunch times and also get the chance to perform at school in the evenings for friends, family and members of the public.

Tickets for the gig at The Anvil and copies of the album can be bought on the door on January 27 from 7.30pm or from the school.

Nominations are now open for the Daily Echo School Awards 2017. Go to bournemouthecho.co.uk/schoolawards for details of how to nominate those who make a difference in schools across the area.
