Had enough of sitting on the sofa and eating leftovers? Here are some ideas for those who want to get out and about to walk off their festive excesses. 

A Festive 2016 Quiz is being held at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest near Ringwood until December 31, between 10am and 2pm. A self-led trail for all the family with fun questions for the children and 2016 general knowledge for the adults. Pick up a trail card on arrival for £1.

Families can enjoy some free craft activities at Durlston Country Park in Swanage between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday, December 28. Visit durlston.co.uk for more details.

Members of DWT’s Poole Group will host their annual Holes Bay Stroll on Thursday, December 29. It will start at 10am meeting at Upton House car park and participants can also enjoy a chat about the natural history found in the town, before enjoying refreshments and then returning to Upton House. Until Friday, December 30 families can see the winter lights at Corfe Castle from 10am to 7pm. Join the lord of misrule for a walk through the ruins of Corfe Castle and discover the rich history of Tudor traditions. Visitors are invited to discover the mixed affair of Christmas festivities during the Elizabethan era with a series games and guided walks.  Walks will take place from 10am to 7pm on Tuesday, December 27 and Saturday, December 31. No booking required and general admission prices apply. 

Children can make their own paper sparkler and have a New Year's Eve celebration on Saturday, December 31 at Poole Central Library.

Poole's popular annual Bath Tub Race returns on New Year's Day. Expect the usual thrills and spills as crews take to the water at Poole Quay in all sorts of whacky bath tub vessels. Starts at 10.30am. The charity event is organised by the Blue Boar. 

A New Year's Day run will take place in Poole. The quarter marathon kicks off at The Junction in Broadstone on January 1 at 10.30am. The two lap event will raise money for sports equipment and facilities for young people and the disabled. To register, visit poolerunners.co.uk
