POLICE and paramedics were called to reports that a man was stabbed at the grounds of a church on Wednesday night.
Officers were called to St Peter's Church in Bournemouth at 11.10pm where a man, aged in his 20s, was stabbed in the leg.
He was taken to Poole hospital for treatment with serious injuries and a cordon was put in place while police examined the scene.
No one has been arrested.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Police were called at around 11.10pm on Wednesday to reports that a man had been stabbed in the leg in the grounds of St Peter’s Church in St Peter’s Road in Bournemouth.
"The victim – a local man aged in his 20s - suffered a serious injury to his leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.
"The area was cordoned off to allow investigators to examine the scene.
"Investigations are ongoing."
A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said they sent one ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.
On September 14, police were called to the church following a concern for a woman's welfare.
Officers were called at around 5.30pm after a woman in her fifties was reported to have sustained a head injury.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said it was not known how the woman sustained the cut to her head.
