THE opening day of the eighth annual Poole Town & Country Show attracted bumper crowds to Upton Country Park.
Thousands of visitors attended the Daily Echo-backed event, which boasted a host of attractions including terrier racing, Purbeck ferrets, live music and a working dog display.
Speaking in the build-up to the event, Emma Owen, director of Oakleigh Fairs - the company promoting the show - said: "The terrier racing always goes down well with the crowds. The children get really, really involved and we have many of the same people attend. There is a lovely spirit.
"The terriers are looking forward to coming down and they're going to go superfast because the children in Dorset give them a run for their money."
This year's show also included birds of prey, a goat show, arts and crafts stalls, gift and food marquees, trade stands and other rural demonstrations.
Visitor Barry Pearson told the Echo: “I love these sorts of events, it is great to see shows like this going from strength-to-strength.
"There are a lot of country crafts and skills on display here, and by holding events like this these skills are passed on."
Traditional and folk music was performed by Celtic Confusion, and youngsters enjoyed inflatables and a children's fairground.
The event was fully catered and included a licensed bar featuring real ales and cider.
The second day of the Poole Town & Country Show takes place between 10am and 5pm tomorrow.
Entry is £6 per adult, £3 for children
