POOLE'S Jacob Peters became the first British 15-year-old ever to swim a 50m length of butterfly in under 25 seconds as he completed a golden hat-trick at the British Summer Championships in Sheffield.

Peters – 16 later this month – staged his own butterfly ball in the 16yrs butterfly events with a clean sweep of all six heats and finals.

In the 50m, his winning time of 24.80sec broke not only his own Dorset junior and British age group records but a Dorset senior record set by Seth Chappels in 2002, when the Ferndown swimmer shared the British championship podium with world champion Mark Foster.

Peters also won the 100m butterfly in 55.52 and the 200m in 2:02.98, which broke his own Dorset junior record.

He also claimed bronze in the 50m backstroke in 26.54 after lowering his own Dorset senior and junior records with 26.59 in the heats.

Swim Bournemouth’s Bath Uni swimmer Jay Lelliott, who had hoped to be in Rio right now, also made the podium four times, although that will be scant consolation after missing out on the big one.

Lelliott, whose Olympic hopes were wrecked by a tummy bug at the trials in April, won the 19/o 1500m freestyle by 26 seconds in 15:04.97 and the 200m freestyle in 1:48.71.

He also took silver in the 400m freestyle (3:50.14) and 200m butterfly (1:58.39).

Poole’s Jazz McCrea twice broke her own Dorset junior record on her way to bronze in the 15yrs 50m butterfly.

She set new county figures of 28.48 in the heats before lowering that to 27.99 in the final.

She also made the 200m individual medley (IM) final, coming 10th in 2:25.71, and was 12th in the 100m fly (1:05.01).

Bournemouth Collegiate School’s Finn Trehane made four finals and won bronze in the 13-14yrs 50m breaststroke (32.02).

He was also fourth in the 200m IM (2:15.86), fifth in the 100m breaststroke (1:09.48) and seventh in the 200m backstroke (2:18.91).

BCS team-mate Alice Tai warmed up for her Paralympic debut next month with bronze in the multi-disability 100m butterfly.

She was also fourth in the MD 100m backstroke and sixth in the 100m freestyle.

BCS’s Kayla van der Merwe narrowly missed out on the podium as she came fourth in the 13-14yrs 50m breaststroke (33.85) and fifth in the 200m breaststroke (2:40.55). She was also 12th in the 100m (1:16.76).

Harriet Perfect made the 16yrs 100m and 200m backstroke finals, finishing 10th and seventh respectively in 1:05.89 and 2:20.03.

She was 21st in the 50m backstroke.

Poole’s Fiona Hardie was ninth in the 19/o 100m butterfly final in 1:02.18.

Equal sixth place in the heats in 25.23 earned BCS’s Ben Samuel a place in the 15yrs 50m freestyle final, where he finished 10th in 25.58.

Poole’s Madison Kemp, Leonie Wiehle, Emily Clarke and Jasmine Holmes qualified for the women’s 17 and over 4x100m freestyle final, where Hardie replaced Wiehle and the team came sixth behind five city squads.

Clarke, Holmes, Kemp and Wiehle were also 14th in the 4x200m freestyle and 21st in the medley relay.

In the individual events, Clarke came ninth in the 800m freestyle in 19/o 9:20.49, 11th in the 400m freestyle and 15th in both the 50m butterfly and 200m backstroke while Holmes was 13th in the 17-18yrs 100m freestyle and 19th in the 200m freestyle.

Christian Tai (BCS) was 12th in the 15yrs 100m butterfly, Lottie James (BCS) 16th in the 16yrs 200m IM, Poole’s Thea O’Keefe 18th in the 16yrs 400m freestyle and Alesha Gibson (BCS) 21st in the 15yrs 200m breaststroke.

Seagulls’ Max Weeks came 21st and 22nd in the 14yrs 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

In the boys’ 14-16yrs medley relay, BCS’s Jack Arnell, Trehane, Tai and Samuel were 20th and Poole’s Peters, Oli Weston, Lloyd Arnold and Matt Collins 28th.
