Part of the B3081 Shaftesbury Road is being resurfaced this week under night closures.
One section of the road was resurfaced last November and was planned to be replaced this week.
Another section of the road 'melted' during last week's hot weather and the county council is taking the opportunity to fix the section at the same time.
A spokesperson said: "The cost of these remedial works will be covered by the contractor, not Dorset County Council, as the material has 'failed'".
Work started on Monday and will be completed by Saturday.
Works will be done under a night-time road closure to reduce disruption to residents and businesses.
The road will be closed each night between 7pm and 6am.
A full road closure is required to complete the works safely.
