OVER £1,500 was raised by a Poole-based hospice through a campaign which saw individuals and groups don yellow clothing and accessories.

Forest Holme Hospice's Wear Yellow Day was organised to raise awareness, as well as funds, for the cause, which supports terminally ill patients across Poole, Wimborne and Purbeck.

Becky Chalk, fundraiser for Forest Holme, which is based in Seldown Road, said that yellow is the colour associated with hospices.

She added: "Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Wear Yellow Day even bigger and brighter.

"Jointly, they have raised over £1,500 towards our vital services and this will help many local families who are going through the dark days of a life-limiting illness."

Participating companies included the Fitness First head office, Essential Nursing, the gynaecology team and the Dorset Breast Screening Units from Poole Hospital and The Secret Wardrobe. Staff from the Legal, Democratic and Strategy Services at Borough of Poole, Sandford Holiday Park, TSB in Falkland Square and Primark in the Dolphin Shopping Centre.

Last month, the charity revealed that over £7,500 had been raised from their annual Sunflower Ball fundraiser, which featured inspirational speeches, a three-course dinner, photo booth and music.

Each year, Forest Holme Hospice Charity relies on the support of the community to provide exceptional palliative and end of life care for over 1,000 people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Their specialist teams offer care and support for patients and their families in a variety of settings such as their own home, in nursing or care homes, in hospital or in the hospice itself. Forest Holme provides care through a variety of different ways including 12 inpatient beds, outpatients services and a counselling service. Staff aim to provide individually tailored care to patients to meet their physical, psychological and spiritual needs.

The hospice also offers education, training and development facilities in palliative and supportive care, to improve the care of patients in other settings.
