AN AWARD-winning festival with an old-school twist has returned to Southbourne this weekend.

The Shake and Stir Vintage Festival, which takes place in Fishermans Walk, Southbourne Grove and the Green, features music, dancing, classic cars and food and drink stalls.

Visitors enjoyed music from the Bournemouth University Big Band, Memphis Belle, the Red Fez Orchestra, the Land Girls and Rip It Up.

And there will be dancing in the streets as members of the public join dance classes, with performances from the Highcliffe Charity Players and the Glad Rag Production Company.

Business owners Mandy Payne and Fiona McArthur organised the event.

Mandy said: "It has started off brilliantly.

"There is such a buzz to it this year. I've never seen it like this - it's really amazing.

"There are people sat on straw bales, 16 food and drink traders selling lots of lovely things, it's just fantastic."

And Mandy said the future is bright for the festival, which is hosted by the Coastal Business Improvement District team in association with the Southbourne-on-Sea Business Association and the Brewhouse and Kitchen.

"It gets bigger and bigger every year," she said.

"Our aim is to become the biggest vintage event on the south coast.

"That's our dream, and we are working towards that with every festival."

Many of those who visit the festival dress up in vintage-style clothes, and Mandy said: "People are beautifully dressed.

"Visitors go to so much effort, it's really wonderful to see."
