GREYHOUND owners are invited to walk their dogs at Upton Country Park tomorrow as part of a global event.
The Great Global Greyhound Walk will see hounds and humans take a walk at parks, woods, beaches, and heaths across the world.
Amanda Lawrence, organiser of the Poole walk, said: “This is the seventh time I have arranged a walk, and each year they get bigger and bigger.
“Sighthounds from Italian Greyhounds to Borzois joined our walk last year. We even had an ex-racer all the way from New Zealand and her family join us.
“We are delighted to be part of this global event. We are hoping for a huge turnout of local greyhounds, lurchers, and any other sighthounds to beat last year’s total of 70 dogs walking.”
The walk, which starts at 11am, has been organised by the charity Greyhound Walks, which aims to raise awareness of retired greyhounds as family pets.
“Greyhounds make great companions, they love human company, are gentle, docile, and affectionate and walk really well on the lead,” Amanda added.
“Contrary to popular belief, they don’t require much exercise – just two 20 minute walks a day, and although they enjoy longer walks too, they are equally happy relaxing on a comfy sofa.”
