GET the kids in gear for Bournemouth Wheels Festival 2016, which is set to be the best event yet for families.

As well as the action on the beaches and the cliff top, there is fun for all the family throughout the town at this year’s festival - which kicks off on Friday.

Check out the freestyle, aerial cycling stunts from BMX display team Savage Skills in The Square on Friday evening from 6pm to 8.30pm. The talented riders will also be running ‘have-a-go’ sessions for children who want to try freestyle riding for themselves.

Also offering pop-up coaching for the kids between shows is Team Extreme - a collection of BMX riders, skateboarders and inline skaters who will be performing on stunt ramps on Bournemouth beach on all three days of the festival.

There’ll be a host of fun in the Lower Gardens with face painting and a children’s entertainer on Friday between 3pm and 6pm, and on Saturday between 12noon and 5pm with BubbleJo, a circus workshop and facepainting.

A festival first are the Little Landies, to the Boscombe end of East Overcliff Drive. These scale models of real Land Rovers are electrically powered and give children a taste of what it’s like to drive in an off-road vehicle.

Or for an even wilder ride the kids will love the Mini Monster Trucks. These pocket-sized replicas of monster trucks favourites Big Pete, Swamp Thing, Slingshot or the Grim Reaper, will give children and adults a little taste of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of the real thing.

And not forgetting the ever popular funfair, returning to the east of Bournemouth Pier throughout the event.

Wheels Festival Director, Jon Weaver, said: “Bournemouth Wheels Festival is so much more than a motor show - it’s a family festival with the addition of breathtaking stunts and high energy displays from monster trucks to motorbikes.”

He added: “There really is something for everyone!”
