CAN you help design Bournemouth’s very own Island?

Event management company, Seventa Events, has been working for months to create a man-made floating island off the shore of Bournemouth beach, located next to the pier.

The company has been working alongside the United Arab Emirates and Emir Dubai Sheikh Malymb – the brains behind The Palm Islands in Dubai, to create something similar.

Over the past few months’ members of the events team have been travelling back and forth to the UAE, liaising with the Dubai Palm team, curating ideas for Bournemouth’s own island.

This will be a brand new venue for Bournemouth, adding a futuristic and artistic atmosphere to Bournemouth Beach.

The island is scheduled to be completed by summer 2020.

Seventa Events will be holding a competition for the most creative and best design of the island, with the winner having their design brought to life and made into the island.

The polls will be opening from May 2016 so ready, get set, design!

Guidelines and regulations for the designs shall be available upon request from info@seventa.co.uk.

It took Seventa and the team over 120 feasible studies to review many extensive aspects of this large-scale project, focussing on the examinations of the rock formations to ensure the archipelago’s stability and security.

A spokesman for the company said: “We have been working tirelessly over the last 16 months to be able to bring this idea to Bournemouth and we are extremely excited to be able to do so for the first time as a venue.

“Some eagle eyed residents may of in fact noticed our ships and platforms in the bay completing these tests on the sea bed, make sure to keep an eye out for work starting later this year.

“The Island will be utilised for conferences and as a venue for all styled events.

“Floating markets will be hired when there is an event being held, to bring you refreshments in style, from ice cream boats to a buffet on a boat.

“The Island is a major project that we are proud to be part of.

“We certainly can’t wait until the spectacular venue is up and running. Follow #BournemouthIsland to keep up to date with what’s going on.”

Tickets are already available for the grand opening of the venue in April 2020.

* This may be an April Fools’ but the stories about Bournemouth Airport drop-off charges going up and the A338 Spur Road roadworks finishing on time are completely true.
