A MAN drove a white van across a West Moors roundabout before a crash last week.

Dorset Police said the incident, which occurred at around 1pm on Tuesday, February 9, involved a Ford Transit travelling on the A348 towards the Palmersford roundabout.

The vehicle reportedly mounted first the grass verge then the roundabout itself before continuing along the A31 and colliding with a red Honda Civic. The driver of the van allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

Today, Detective Constable Mark Holmes, of Bournemouth CID, said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the manner of driving of the van, the collision with the Honda, or someone walking on the road shortly afterwards to contact me.

"This was potentially a very dangerous collision as the van is reported to have driven straight over the middle of a roundabout. It is only by good fortune that no one was seriously injured as a result."

A spokesman for the force said the driver was "later seen walking in the carriageway near Saint Leonards Hospital".

A 20-year-old Wimborne man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
