Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was seriously injured in a hit and run.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was knocked off his bike by a car as he rode along Wimborne Road in Corfe Mullen on Sunday. The man was taken to Poole Hospital

The collision happened at 12.31pm outside the Lambs Green Inn.

The road was closed near the scene to allow emergency services to attend and deal with the incident.

Police Sergeant Rhiannon Stroud, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “The vehicle, which we suspect was involved in the collision, failed to stop at the scene.

“I believe it is a small light coloured car which was travelling toward Corfe Mullen and would have sustained front nearside damage in the collision.

“I would urgently like to hear from anyone who has information about this vehicle or witnessed the collision.

“Also, I would like to thank motorists for their patience during the road closure, which was necessary to allow us to establish what happened.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 20:194. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
