A BOURNEMOUTH taxi driver is appealing for Dorset residents to donate furniture and toys to people struck by flooding in Cumbria.

Terry Ali has teamed up with Peter Gilbert, owner of Playgolf Bournemouth, to run a collection for residents in Cumbria, who have seen their county flood twice in four days, just a short time before Christmas.

Mr Ali has previously raised money for Langside School in Poole, victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and organised a football tournament to collect money for Syrian residents.

He said: "Pete and I sat down and he said that they can sort out a storage area, so they will store anything no matter how big or small as the people in Cumbria have nothing.

"If people want to donate a sofa or a bookcase, as they are ordering a new one this Christmas, they will take it. People can just donate tinned food or toys for the children and it will put a smile on their face."

Residents can drop small items to Joy Express at 129 Seabourne Road in Southbourne and bigger items such as furniture to Playgolf Bournemouth, on Riverside Avenue.

Terry and Peter will arrange courier delivery of the items to people in Cumbria.
