WHEN Gwen Randall lost her treasured engagement ring in September she was devastated.

The ring was a gift from her husband Gordon to replace her original one she had lost 25 years ago.

After two months of searching with no success the pair, who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year, decided they needed a bit of extra help to find it.

On Monday the couple turned to the Bournemouth Detecting Club in a last ditch attempt to find the ruby and diamond encrusted ring.

The club offers a free recovery service to help people find things they have lost.

Member Darren Wiles spotted the email to the club on Monday and within the hour he was at the couple's home in West Moors metal detector in hand.

"The problem was that she had no idea where she had lost it," said Darren, who lives in Bournemouth.

"After searching the house to begin with then I moved into the garden where I found the ring within 30 minutes.

"It was probably my most satisfying ring search ever because Gwen was just so grateful that I had found it.

"She was very emotional and shaking with happiness and to say I wasn't emotional would be a lie.

"It was such a great feeling, and confirmed exactly why I do this for people."

The detecting club are usually called by beachgoers who have lost jewellery while visiting the seaside.
