A YOUNG man was left fighting for life following a car crash along an isolated country road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to Sugar Hill, Lower Woodbury, near Bere Regis, at 12.30am.

A blue Citroen Saxo car had careered off the road, leaving all four occupants with serious injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital after receiving on-the-spot treatment by paramedics who attended the scene.

The road, which cuts across Wareham Forest and is subject to a 60mph speed limit, was closed while specially-trained collision investigators from Dorset Police examined the scene in detail.

It is not believed that any other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Dorset Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS) were not called to the incident and the car has since been recovered.

A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service told the Daily Echo that four ambulances along with four ambulance officers attended the scene following reports of a one-vehicle collision.

"Two of the casualties were taken to Dorset County Hospital, with the other two taken to Poole Hospital for treatment," said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, a Dorset Police spokesman confirmed: "The driver, a 21-year-old man from Swanage, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and the other occupants, a 21-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-year-old woman, all suffered serious injuries.

"The injured parties were taken to hospital for treatment. The road was closed while investigators examined the scene."
