A MAN who died after being struck by a train at Pokesdown station has been named as Robert Paton Smellie.
The 60-year-old, who lived in Ashley Road in Boscombe, died of multiple severe injuries due to blunt trauma in the tragedy, which took place at 9.20pm on Monday September 28.
A Bournemouth inquest heard Mr Smellie, who was born in Motherwell in Scotland, was identified by fingerprint analysis.
Dorset coroner Sheriff Payne heard a train driver saw a person lying across the track as he approached the station at 70mph. He was unable to stop.
British Transport Police and HM Coroner are carrying out further inquiries and the inquest was adjourned until March 17.
