A CYCLIST was airlifted to hospital after an accident in Broadstone earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to Broadstone Way at 10.45am, to reports of a van in collision with a male cyclist.

The cyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to hospital with what Dorset Police described as "serious leg injuries."

His condition is not life-threatening .

Police closed Broadstone Way in both directions while the man was being treated, and the road remained closed for some time afterwards while specially-trained crash investigators inspect the scene.

A closure was put in place between the Clarendon Road and Cabot Lane junctions, causing slight delays in the local area.

No-one else sustained any injury and the vehicle involved was a silver van.

Police Sergeant Mark Farrow, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or either the car or cyclist prior to the collision to contact me on 101.

“I would also like to thank the public for their patience during the road closure.”
