AN INNOVATIVE project which helps young people overcome difficulties through surfing needs your help to secure more funding.

The Wave Project is one of seven organisations nominated in the sports section for a National Lottery award.

Voting closes at midnight tonight so representatives have urged Daily Echo readers to back them with an online vote.

The Wave Project operates at a number of locations around the UK, including Bournemouth.

The Bournemouth group, set up in 2013, has already helped to transform the lives of hundreds of children with varying degrees of physical disability or mental health problems.

Young people are referred to the Wave Project by other professional services and take part in courses, often going on to become volunteers in the project.

The National Lottery awards, now in their 12th year, recognise the difference that Lottery funded projects have made to people, places and communities across the UK.

The winners will be announced next month and they will be invited to appear on national television and take home a £2,000 cash prize for their project.
