One of the biggest events in Purbeck's annual calendar kicks off on Saturday.
Over the past 40 years, Swanage Carnival and Regatta has attracted thousands of people thanks to its lively processions with over 60 volunteers taking part and nearly one hundred events organised over the week.
We take a look back at some of the highlights from a bathing beauties contest in 1951, displays from the Red Arrows to some of the memorable characters who have helped make Swanage Carnival the popular event it is today.
