LIFEBOAT volunteers were called to help a sinking speedboat on Saturday afternoon.

Both of Poole’s RNLI lifeboats were initially sent out at around 4.30pm to the scene near Boscombe.

As they were heading there, news came through that the three people on board had been helped by RNLI lifeguards and had made it safely ashore.

The all-weather lifeboat was stood down and the inshore lifeboat went to the scene to check that the three people were OK and then secured the boat.

The crew liaised with the council to get permission to bring the stricken vessel ashore and it was landed west of Boscombe Pier.

Poole lifeboat volunteer helmsman James Kilburn said: “We gave some sea safety advice and would recommend that anyone taking a vessel afloat for the first time to seek some training.”
