A MAN received serious injuries this morning after a pallet fell on him at an industrial site in Poole.

The emergency services were called to Sunseeker Technology Centre in Mannings Heath Road at 8.10am, a spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said.

The spokesman said that the man had sustained a minor head injury, but had been left with serious leg injuries, possibly fracturing both legs. However, he was conscious and breathing at the scene.

A spokesman for the firm said: "Following an incident at our Mannings Heath Technology Centre this morning, a Sunseeker employee was taken to Poole Hospital by road ambulance with a foot and leg injury.

"The welfare of our staff is extremely important to us and we are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the cause of the incident."

A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said the company would have ten days to formally notify them of the incident.

The air ambulance was also called to the scene, along with police. The helicopter landed and took off from land opposite the technology centre in Mannings Heath Road, but was not needed as the casualty was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment.

A police car and an ambulance car was at the goods entrance to the premises this morning.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said they had examined the scene of the accident but there were no suspicious circumstances and no action was taken.

The evidence and photographs collected would be handed over to the Health and Safety Executive for a formal investigation to be carried out.
