POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman was killed in a crash in West Dorset.

Officers say the collision happened at the Holywell Cross junction with the A37, between Dorchester and Yeovil, on Wednesday, May 13.

It involved a silver Volvo single decker coach travelling from Yeovil towards Dorchester and a grey Mitsubishi car, driven by an 83-year-old man from the Bridport area.

The front seat passenger of the car, an 80-year-old woman from the Bridport area, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

Police Constable Mike Henstridge, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and I would like to thank motorists for their patience during the road closure.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident to please call on 101. All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 13:156.

The driver of the car sustained slight injuries and was conveyed by ambulance to Dorset County Hospital. A passenger from the coach was treated by paramedics at the scene for slight injuries.
