PLANS for a new housing development in Bournemouth town centre are going on show to the public this week.

Proposals have been put forward to build 100 flats on the council-owned Berry Court car park on St Peter’s Road.

The developers say the scheme will include high-quality accommodation and a multi-storey car park with more than 150 public parking spaces.

They say the plans are designed to make better use of what is currently a surface car park and help to rejuvenate the wider area.

It is the latest project by The Bournemouth Development Company, a regeneration partnership to deliver Bournemouth Borough Council’s Town Centre Vision.

Duncan Johnston, director at Bournemouth Development Company, said the scheme will provide high-quality homes in the town centre.

He said: “Berry Court offers a real opportunity to accelerate the delivery of much needed new homes for market rent, meaning more people can live in the town centre in high-quality accommodation.”

He added: “At the same time, there will be no loss of car parking which is of course vital to the economy and for individual residents, commuters and visitors.”

Councillor John Beesley, leader of Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “The Bournemouth Development Company partnership is going from strength to strength as we continue to regenerate key sites across the town.

“The proposal for Berry Court is the next exciting phase in development which aims to further attract new residents to the town centre.”

Bournemouth Development Company has already delivered the Citrus Building, which overlooks Horseshoe Common.

The colourful five-storey building, which features 64 apartments and cost £12million, was officially opened in February.

The Bournemouth Development Company also built student accommodation at Madeira Road for Arts University Bournemouth and the Madeira Road multi-storey car park overlooking Wessex Way.

Outline plans to develop Berry Court were approved by Bournemouth Borough Council last year.

This week’s public exhibition follows design and development appraisal work to inform a full planning application expected later in 2015.

The plans will be on display at the Norfolk Hotel on Richmond Hill between 2pm and 8pm on Thursday, May 14.
