AFC Bournemouth are in the media spotlight again tonight with their promotion discussed on The One Show with the Daily Echo's own Neil Perrett.

In yet another example of the new world of publicity the club has entered since it clinched an almost certain place in the Premiere League on Monday, record-holding 400m sprinter and BBC interviewer Iwan Thomas visited the Echo office in Richmond Hill yesterday to talk about the secrets of the Cherries' success.

Media interest in the club has rocketed since it became apparent a couple of months ago that the Cherries were genuine contenders for promotion, and press conferences at the Goldsands Stadium are now swamped by reporters and camera crews from national broadcasters and newspapers.

But with Neil's appearance on The One Show, which receives around five million viewers daily, the club's inspiring story will now reach an even wider audience.

One Show reporter Iwan, who lives in Southampton and is an ambassador for the football club's Saints Foundation charity, said the aim was to "talk about the people behind the scenes at the club who have helped them achieve their success".

He praised the "homely, family atmosphere" at Bournemouth matches.

A sportsman himself, Iwan holds the British 400m sprint record after competing in the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

During the interview, which airs tonight at 7pm on BBC One, Neil, who has been following the Cherries since the late 1970s, talks about how important Eddie Howe has been to the club over the course of its rapid rise through the ranks from Division Two.

Neil, who played once for the reserve team when he was a teenager, also talks about changes the team may be forced to make to compete at a higher level, and his hopes for their future success.

With a tongue-in-cheek last word, when asked what his dream headline would be for next season Neil opted for "Cherries thrash Saints".

Eddie's men travel to Charlton for the final game of the season tomorrow afternoon, before enjoying an open-top bus parade from pier to pier along Bournemouth seafront on Monday.

And should they overhaul Watford, who currently top the Championship by a point, they will also be celebrating their first ever trophy win.
