A SPECIALIST engineer is due to visit Poole Park mini railway in the next week to investigate the cause of an incident that has closed it since March 23.

The popular railway around the lake has not been operating since a carriage overturned and a young boy was taken to hospital for a check up.

Borough of Poole launched an investigation into the circumstances of the derailing, which railway owner Chris Bullen believes was a deliberate act by youngsters who "put some sticks in the points".

Anthony Rogers, recreation manger, Borough of Poole said: "Following the initial investigation we have been unable to establish a cause of the incident and the railway remains temporarily closed.

"A specialist engineer is however due to visit the site at the end of next week and their report may shed more light on the cause.

"We are working with the operator to reopen the attraction as soon as possible and ensure robust procedures are in place to prevent a similar incident in the future, which will be regularly monitored."

The train has been running since 1949, delighting generations of youngsters visiting the park, and this is the first time there has been an incident.
