A DAREDEVIL Bournemouth couple will skydive 10,000 feet in memory of a teenager tragically killed by meningitis.

Davina Gahan and Gary Blackburn are taking on the terrifying challenge to raise money for the hospital unit which cared for Connie Moore in her final hours.

Now they hope members of the public will get behind them and sponsor their efforts for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton Hospital.

Davina, 37, and 45-year-old Gary hope to raise at least £1,000 by taking part in the skydive in Salisbury on May 14.

"My daughter, Jazmin, was Connie's best friend and Connie's mum, Kathleen, is also a good friend of ours" said Davina.

"Thousands of pounds have already been raised for meningitis charities in memory of Connie but so far we haven't done anything for PICU and they were fantastic at the time."

Connie, a talented singer and pupil of Bournemouth School for Girls, died in January last year, just days after sitting mock GCSE exams.

News of her sudden death sent shockwaves through the school community and head teacher Alistair Brien described her as "a lovely, gentle-natured girl with impeccable manners."

He added: "She was studious and hard-working in class and also a talented singer out of school. Always bright and bubbly, she had a wonderful laugh, much appreciated by her many friends."

Hundreds of people attended her funeral and, since then, many friends and family have taken part in fund raising events.

More than £16,000 was raised when a group took part in a walk in London last May and there are plans to do it again this year.

So far £235 has been pledged but Davina and Gary hope more people will sponsor them by going to mydonate.bt.com/teams/teamconnie
