Students’ Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU) has achieved a significant milestone with the recent award of Investors in Diversity accreditation.

One of the few Student Unions in United Kingdom to be accredited with this highly prized and prestigious benchmark standard for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) within the workplace, it provides SUBU with an all-encompassing methodology for continuously improving ED&I practices.

In 2014 SUBU committed to achieving Investors in Diversity to establish, consolidate and embed excellent ED&I practices and behaviours across its organisation and is rightly proud to have achieved this goal. SUBU is also committed to ensuring it continues on this journey to achieve Leaders in Diversity, the next step in demonstrating SUBU’s ED&I characteristics. By working with the National Centre for Diversity, SUBU aims to develop and embed ED&I as a ‘top-down’ meets ‘bottom up’ approach.

Caston Matewu, Access All Areas Manager, said: “We are very excited about the journey we have just embarked on; SUBU is committed to its engaging and relevant approach to ED&I and to leaving a positive legacy for current and future students. We are setting challenging goals but together with our students we will continuously develop ourselves to help set the ED&I agenda not just for our University community but also our external stakeholders”.
