POLICE are working to locate the driver of a blue car who may have been involved in an accident which claimed the life of a 20-year-old moped rider at the weekend.
The fatal collision happened on the A350, near Warminster, on Saturday afternoon, as both the moped and the blue car were travelling south towards the county border.
Wiltshire Police are investigating but they believe the driver who failed to stop may live in Dorset. The moped rider, from the Warminster area, died at the scene, at Longbridge Deverill.
Traffic officers from Wiltshire Police Serious Investigation Team (SCIT) say the Yamaha 125cc moped collided with a transit van travelling in the opposite direction around 4.15pm.
PC Charlotte Smith, a member of the SCIT, said: “We know that the moped was following closely behind the blue car. Sadly the moped rider lost control and collided with an oncoming van.
“We are extremely keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A350 at about 4.15pm and witnesses the collision.
“We need to speak to the driver of the blue car who did not stop at the scene. He or she may well live in Dorset or have been on their way to Dorset.”
Anyone with information is being urged to contact Wiltshire Police via 101.
