PLANS for 35 retirement flats in Ferndown have gone before the public.

Housebuilder McCarthy and Stone held an exhibition at the Barrington Centre to present draft plans for its Signature Retirement Living apartments.

The company has acquired an interest in 426 to 434 New Road, which is currently occupied by five properties.

Bosses are proposing to redevelop the large site with 35 one and two bedroom apartments for retired people, along with 24 car parking spaces and mobility scooter storage, landscaping, planting and communal areas.

Approximately 900 households and local businesses were invited to the exhibition at the Barrington Centre. On the day, 34 residents and community representatives attended.

Shane Paull, McCarthy and Stone’s regional managing director, said: “The public exhibition was an excellent opportunity for us to talk with the local community about our redevelopment plans for this site.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank people for their constructive feedback. We will be reviewing all the comments received and will look to address any comments, where possible, before submitting a full planning application.”
