BOMB disposal officers were called to a property in Bournemouth after a resident reported a possible explosive device on the premises.

Dorset Police implemented a cordon and closed off a section of Fenton Road in Southbourne while the bomb squad dealt with the drama.

A police spokesman told the Daily Echo the owner raised the alarm around 3.20pm, but he’d first found the device at Corfe Castle two weeks previously.

Road closures were put in place at the junction of Fenton Road and Stourvale Road, and at the junction of Fenton Road and Castlemain Avenue.

The army bomb disposal squad took the device away and police re-opened the roads around 5.30pm.

Dorset Police were unable to confirm what the device was before the Echo went to press.

However, a spokesman said: “Dorset police received a report of a suspect container at a property at Fenton Road, Southbourne.

“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad were contacted and road closures were put in place. EOD attended and removed the device.”
