MUSICAL theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat when Songs For A New World hits the stage in Bournemouth.

The emotional, contemporary show is certain to strike a chord with people from all walks of life as it takes its audience on a fascinating journey into the minds of its characters.

Directed by Nigel Richards, a West End star who appeared in the show’s British premiere 15 years ago, it will be performed by a company of dynamic, professionally-trained young people from the Big Little Theatre School.

And ticket sales will support Help of Heroes, a charity which helps those wounded in conflict.

Nigel, whose impressive credits include playing The Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, said he is delighted to be working with students from the school’s Profess-ional Development Programme (PDP).

He told the Daily Echo: “The show is written for four people but we have found a way of doing it with 26 people.

“It is a collection of songs about people having to make decisions.

“The diverse characters include a woman who is leaving her husband, who happens to be Santa Claus, and a couple who met up again 10 years after they divorced.

“There are 26 different situations – some hilarious and some deeply moving.”

Nigel is working alongside Colin Billing, a top-notch musical director with a string of credits as long as his arm and a gritty determination to get the best out of his talented and committed students, who are aged between 16 and 19.

The show will take place at the Life Centre in Wimborne Road, Winton on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01202 434499, costing £12 or £10 for students.
