THIS is the moment that a double-decker bus drives the wrong way down a busy Bournemouth road.

Shot on what appears to be a dashboard camera of another vehicle, the video, which has surfaced on You Tube, shows the Yellow Buses vehicle flashing its lights as it travels along the wrong side of Lansdowne Road towards Cemetery Junction, with traffic backing up at the lights.

The driver of the vehicle from which the footage was shot turned right from Wimborne Road into Lansdowne Road, before encountering the bus, a number three service bound for Castlepoint, and having to come to a halt to let it through.

It is not clear why the bus driver made the manoeuvre, but Yellow Buses said it had suspended them and launched an investigation.

That investigation has now concluded and Yellow Buses said they were “not prepared to give details of the outcome”.

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellow Buses’ head of marketing, said they received no complaints from any of the passengers on the bus or witnesses to the incident.

She added: “We take the professional driving standards of our staff very seriously. We have robust processes in place in the unlikely event of an incident such as this.

“We do not expect any of our staff to behave in this manner; our drivers are professionals who undergo rigorous and continuous training.

“The matter has been dealt with internally.”

The identity of who filmed and posted the video remains a mystery, despite efforts from the Daily Echo to contact them.

Bus passengers in Bournemouth were shocked to see the video.

Sandra Saul, of Bournemouth, said: “I normally have every sympathy with bus drivers because I think they have a really difficult job, particularly in Gervis Place, where it is so congested.

“But I just can’t see why he felt the need to pull out and drive on the wrong side of the road.

“It was a bit risky and you can’t be taking risks when you’ve got passengers on board. It’s a bit frightening.”

Kirsty Anken, of Poole said: “I would be a little bit concerned if I was on that bus, to be honest. It could be really dangerous, especially as it is on such a busy main road.”

A spokesman for Dorset Police’s traffic team said: “It is apparent that the bus is on the incorrect side of the road approaching a corner.

“We would ask the person who took the video to make contact with us so we can progress matters further.”

Note: Although the date on the dashboard camera is dated 2012, the video was filmed recently, as number plates on vehicles in it confirm. It was first posted on You Tube last week.
