A section of Castle Lane West in Bournemouth will have narrow carriageways next week, because of work to create new footways and a cycle lane.
Work will start on Monday on the stretch of road between the Broadway Lane roundabout and Castle Gate Close.
A letter sent to residents said the narrow traffic lanes will be in place for around five weeks.
It states: “We acknowledge this is a heavily used route and we are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum and ensure the works are completed as soon as possible.”
But Throop and Muscliff councillor Ron Whittaker criticised the council for narrowing the carriageways at a time when extra motorists are using Castle Lane West because of the closure of New Road.
He said: “This news is just what motorists don’t wish to hear. These whole works have caused nothing but anger and frustration to many who have to use Castle Lane West.”
