WORKS to upgrade the street lights on the Wessex Way are continuing this week.

Some lanes of the busy Bournemouth road will be closed, right, while the lights are upgraded to low-energy LED lanterns.

A Bournemouth Borough Council spokesman said the works, which started on Monday, February 9, are being carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm and overnight between 7pm and 7am.

They are due to be completed at the end of the week.

The spokesman said: “This work will result in some lane closures so we apologise for any possible disruption during this time.

“Please be assured that we are taking every measure to reduce potential traffic congestion.”

The works are part of a scheme to upgrade all street lights across the borough in a bid to make them more energy efficient and save money.

The spokesman added: “The rollout of the new lights has been at the rate of around 500 lanterns a week with more than 13,000 lanterns and 500 illum-inated bollards now upgraded with the new LED technology.”
