BOURNEMOUTH bobsleigh rookie Anya Kay was left in buoyant mood after making her FIBT World Cup bow for Great Britain on Friday.
The 23-year-old brakewoman and bob partner Victoria Olaoye finished 10th out of 14 crews in Königsee, Germany in a field that contained Olympic and World Championship bobsledders.
Arts University Bournemouth student Kay, who is in the final year of a fine art degree, and Olaoye recorded runs of 51.72 seconds and 51.76 seconds to clock 1:43.48 overall.
Discussing her debut, Kay told the Daily Echo: “It was amazing to be out there and I felt so privileged.
“The girls I competed against are incredible athletes and it’s an honour and an inspiration to be sliding against them for my country.
“Vicky is a fantastic driver. I know she was not 100 per cent pleased with her runs but she got me down safe on all four runners in both heats so as a brakewoman I can’t ask for much more.
“I’m disappointed my start time didn’t improve on the second run but I injured myself in the first half of the season and am still in a rehabilitating phase.
“There are definitely stronger and faster times in there.
“The feedback we got from our coaches was pretty positive. We had done a lot of technical work with them on the track and on the push track and I think they were pleased with the progress of the week.”
