BOURNEMOUTH bobsleigh rookie Anya Kay marked her FIBT World Cup debut with a 10th-placed finish in Königsee this evening.

The Arts University Bournemouth student, who first raced competitively 10 months ago, partnered Great Britain team-mate Victoria Olaoye in Germany.

In a 14-strong field that contained Olympian and World Championship bobsledders, brakewoman Kay and driver Olaoye recorded runs of 51.72 seconds and 51.76 seconds to clock 1:43.48 overall.

That was swifter than GB counterparts Mica McNeill and Aleasha Kiddle, who finished 11th on 1:43.79.

German duo Cathleen Martini and Lisa Marie Buckwitz triumphed overall with 1:41.88, some 1.6 seconds ahead of Kay and Olaoye.

Kay, 23, missed the previous three rounds of the World Cup in Lake Placid, Calgary and Altenberg but trained with Great Britain on tour during this period.

She had previously endured a tough introduction to international bobsleigh when she crashed out in Park City, Utah in the first round of the North American Cup in November.
