DORSET’S squad claimed five individual medals in the South West Cross Country Championships at Bicton College, near Exmouth.

Benedict Westhenry won the county’s only gold, finishing first in the under-20 category and sixth overall in the combined men’s race.

He also achieved team gold for his new first-claim club Bristol & West AC.

Serena O’Connor stepped up a level after two Wessex League wins to take silver in the under-17 women’s championships.

She also led Dorset to a county silver as Aiste Razmaite, Bridget Dence and Abbie Hine all finished in the top 13 places.

Wimborne AC’s Thomas Bourne was under-15 boys’ runner-up, also gaining bronze medals for both club and county, while Poole Runner Dominic Willmore finished fifth.

Dorchester AC under-13 Madeleine Johnson gained Dorset’s other silver medal.

Grace Copeland secured under-15 bronze, with club-mate Lucy Ballam seventh.

The club’s under-13 girls, led home by Abbie Lovering and Bethany Kingswell-Farr, gained silver team medals, whereas under-17 Jason Sotheran missed out, finishing a close fourth individually.
